Somali pirate attacks account for the majority of piracy attacks worldwide and G4S are at the forefront of protecting customers in this area.
The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) reports the territorial waters of littoral states and offshore waters as high risk for piracy and armed robbery against ships. Particular problem areas identified by G4S are in the Gulf of Aden, along the East coast of Africa, the Bay of Bengal, and the Strait of Malacca.
Commercial vessels, pleasure craft and more have been attacked and hijacked both at anchor and whilst underway in these areas. Hijacked vessels are often disguised and cargoes stolen while crew and passengers are often held for ransom or murdered.
